Are Lauren Conrad & Whitney Port Still Friends? 10 Years On From 'The Hills', They Answer
The Hills' fans burning question: are Lauren and Whitney still friends?
Imagine dissecting why you fell out with a close friend 10 years after the fact? Add in an audience of the whole world and you’ve got the exact situation Whitney Port and Lauren Conrad found themselves in this week, when Whitney brought Lauren in for a chat on her With Whit podcast. It was… a little awkward, but kinda sweet too.
As you know, Lauren and Whitney appeared on The Hills, which debuted in 2006, working together in the Teen Vogue fashion closet (such simpler times..). While Lauren eventually chose to step away from reality TV, Whitney went on to star in her own MTV show, The City, and later The Hills: New Beginnings. All signs and some awkward interviews pointed to the two having cut contact.
Now, a decade on, they’re addressing their relationship. Turns out, it was all one big misunderstanding.
“I would say the question that I get the most of all time is, are you still friends with Lauren?” Whitney began. “And so my answer to them is always, you know, it’s friends that you went to college with. Good friends that you have really special experiences with, that you always have love for, but that you don’t always keep in touch with.”
Lauren agreed, saying the two will always this “really weird, unique thing” together. “I’ll always remember you like that and never have that with anybody else,” she added.
But then came an unexpected twist: apparently, soon after The Hills stopped filming, Lauren became best friends with a mate Whitney had fallen out with. “I have felt this insecurity that maybe you thought certain things about me that may not have been true, or that I didn’t have the chance to explain,” Whitney said. “I’ve always thought that maybe you were upset with me for what happened with that friend.”
Lauren, for her part, said she had no idea. “I wish we'd had this conversation, because when you said this, I was like, I actually have no idea what you're talking about,” she said. "I have so much love for you and it's one of those things where I stopped filming and then I just kind of needed a clean break for a minute."
She continued, sharing her appreciation for the Teen Vogue days and the rest of The Hills cast. "It had nothing to do with you personally," she said. "I am appreciative and I love you. And I love so many people we worked with." Sweet.
So, there you have it: the true story of Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port’s friendship. Whitney thought Lauren's new mate had turned Lauren against her, while in actual fact, Lauren had just needed a clean break from The Hills to regroup.
