Thandi Phoenix and Young Franco Will Be Hosting MTV’s New Pop-Up Radio Station, ‘MTV Sounds on iHeart Radio’

Thandi Phoenix and Young Franco will be hosting MTV’s brand new pop-up radio station, ‘MTV sounds on iHeartRadio’, taking a look back at the music that defined every decade of MTV's 40-year existence.

Surprise: yours truly and ARN’s iHeartRadio have teamed up to launch a brand new pop-up radio station, MTV Sounds on iHeartRadio, and it’s hitting airwaves today!

Hosted by Aussie artists and local legends Thandi Phoenix and Young Franco, the station will look back on the past 40 years of music to highlight the most defining moments from each decade.

From Prince to the Spice Girls, Britney to Billie, Thandi and Young Franco will be showcasing the best music and exclusive MTV content throughout the entire month of August.

Each week will be themed, of course, kicking off today with ’80s week (the same decade that gave the world Unplugged, btw). Next week, the duo will be getting their grunge and girl power on as they reflect on the ’90s, with the following two weeks focusing on the naughty ’00s and the music of today, respectively.

The celebration will also be extended to MTV’s broadcast channels with the Back & Beyond takeover hitting MTV and MTV Hits weekly. Each Saturday in August, longform music performances and archival series will be rolled out for some essential lockdown viewing.

“We’re thrilled to be working with the iconic MTV, to create another unique iHeartRadio station,” Brett “Nozz” Nossiter, Content Director of iHeartRadio Australia, said in a press statement.

“It’s a real blast to relive and celebrate some of the most seminal MTV moments from the last four decades of incredible music.”

Watch Back & Beyond MTV (Foxtel: 122, Fetch: 104 and Sky: 015) and MTV Hits (Foxtel: 801, Fetch: 237 and Sky: 022) every Saturday in August.

Listen to MTV Sounds on iHeartRadio all August.
