The Trailer For The Final Season Of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Actually Hurts To Watch

It's time to accept that we will be the last generation to truly understand the words "nine-nine".

The final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is hitting our screens soon, and we are very much not okay with that. The iconic comedy television show centring around the NYPD’s 99th precinct has a cult following for a reason: brilliant characters, hilarious plot lines and heart-warming moments fill every episode.

And although the show has been saved from cancellation previously (much to the delight of the show’s millions of fans), this time we’re saying goodbye to our friends for real. Executive Producer, Dan Goor, announced the decision, stating that “ending the show was a difficult decision.”

“Ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honour the characters, the story and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.”

The Emmy-winning show has had a wildly popular eight seasons, showing us all the hilarious misadventures of Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher), Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) and Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz).

It’s fair to say we’re pulling a Boyle and going full-black-leather to respectfully mourn this moment.

The final season’s trailer has just dropped, and it looks like this season will be action-packed and heart-warming as ever, particularly with the addition of Jake and Amy’s baby. It starts with an emotional moment between best friends Boyle and Peralta, reminiscing on their time at the Nine-Nine and expressing sorrow that it may be coming to an end. Same.

The trailer features all the usual suspects (Diaz, Holt, Boyle, Scully and Hitchcock), but also leads us to believe we’ll get a few extra special guests, including Cheddar the dog, Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) and Doug Judy (Craig Robinson).

The release date for Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be August 12, 2021 for folks in the US. But where can you watch it in Australia? SBS On Demand will be fast-tracking Season 8, and we’ll be able to start watching it on August 13, 2021. Noice.

In the meantime, you can catch earlier seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix in Australia.
