The Weeknd has opened the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards with an electrifying performance of "Blinding Lights" from over 1000 feet above Manhattan. It was an electrifying start to the night.

The Weeknd is having one of the biggest years of his career with the release of his fourth studio album, After Hours. The Grammy-winning Canadian powerhouse has six VMAs nominations going into tonight’s show, including the much coveted Video of The Year nomination for the brilliant "Blinding Lights". The Weeknd also took home the VMA for Best R&B for "Blinding Lights".

Now that is how you open a show.

This was The Weeknd’s second performance at the VMAs, with his first coming in 2015 in the form of a fiery performance of his hit "Can't Feel My Face" in 2015. No for real, he really set the place on fire.
